I can’t believe that this was a battle to begin with. The concept of insurance is about risk equalization, why were insurance companies allowed to cherry-pick only those who were profitable? That is behaviour I would expect from “the house” were it a casino. It’s certainly not insurance!

Anyway, it’s good to see the U.S. joining the ranks of civilized societies. Of course I do believe that delivery of services should be run by the lowest bidder, i.e. privatized, just that the pool of customers is not determined by ability to pay.

And with rights comes responsibility. Those who use the E.R. as a primary health provider should be forced to pay the associated costs, they’ll need to learn what the “E” stands for.

If you live in a country where Twitter does not automatically deliver your directs and mentions via SMS you may still have an opportunity to get them delivered if you have a Nokia S60 phone.

The magic is done by Synble, a piece of software that runs in the background on your mobile device. The SMS forwarding is just one feature of Synble, it can also text you when there is an update to an RSS feed which I find useful for sports scores.

This is a one hour podcast of our weekly show on Athlone Community Radio -” The Thursday Mix”. Studio guest was Jeff Reid of Indianapolis, Indiana who is visiting Ireland for his wedding to local girl Paula. Best wishes to them both.

We did a lot of plugging for the Sharon Shannon gig which was happening later that night and turned out to be a worthwhile effort, although they sure could have used a platform on the stage as it was nigh on impossible to see the assembled musicians.

His and Hers is a beautifully observed and creative documentary that
combines observation and imagination to illustrate a universal love story.
Shot in the hallways, living rooms and kitchens of the Irish Midlands, the
story moves sequentially from young to old to deliver a unique and
touching insight into sharing life’s journey. The film explores woman’s relationship with man by visiting moments from the lives of 70 female characters from all over the Midlands, from Tullamore, Portlaoise, Mullingar, Longford, Cavan and Athlone to mention but a few.

The film’s Director Ken Wardrop, a Portarlington native, has been described as one of Ireland’s freshest creative talents. His authentic filmmaking voice has led to many original short cinematic works. With a strong emphasis on the aesthetic and a delicate humanity, Ken’s art has garnered much international attention, with screenings at some of the most prestigious festivals including Sundance, Locarno, Cannes and Oberhausen. His films have received over thirty international awards including a European Film Academy Award for his short film Undressing My Mother in 2005. His and Hers is Ken’s debut feature film, and has recently been selected by The Director’s Finder’s Series to be showcased at this year’s Director’s Guild of America Theatre on sunset Boulevard in L.A this August.

His & Hers is produced by Andrew Freedman and funded by The Irish Film
Board, under their micro budget scheme.

Prior to it’s Irish Premier at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, there will be a special screening for Cast and Press in the Tullamore Omniplex on Bridge St. Tullamore on Thursday 2nd July at 6pm.
